AHEC Scholars program is for health professions students that focuses on giving the students additional education and experience in rural & underserved communities. This is a 2 year longitudinal program with interdisciplinary curricula to implement a defined set of clinical, didactic, and community-based activities. This program includes 160 hours (80 per year) of clinical and education hours.
The focus of the educational portion is on six Core Topics:
- Interprofessional Education
- Behavioral Health Integration
- Social Determinants of Health
- Cultural Competency
- Practice Transformation
- Current and Emerging Health Issues
In order to be an eligible candidate for the AHEC Scholars Program, you must be currently enrolled in a health professions program, be no more than two years from graduation date (AHEC Scholars is only a two-year program) and interested in healthcare in rural/underserved communities. This program is a nationwide effort to increase the accessibility, distribution and quality of care in underserved communities.
